B&W

The dreaded time has come where we have to ditch our crop tops and jean skirts for sweaters and leggings. For those of us in Oregon, the sun has stopped shining, the rain has started pouring and the clouds are hovering. Living in Los Angeles for the last 18 years I chose fashion over function and winter meant simply layering a skimpy leather jacket over a thin long sleeve and adding a beanie to really show off our "winter" style. But once I entered the reality of an Oregon winter I was in for a rude awakening, I had to learn how to dress functionally and fashionably at the same time! While my leather jackets and long sleeves have to be put aside for North Face jackets and wool sweaters, I’m slowly learning how to master the perfect cold weather look. And if you're anything like me, three more long sleeves layered under that (hey, it's really cold I swear!)

Though it can be fun to trade in our T-shirts and tank tops for knit sweaters and parkas, it can be hard to stay stylish while also trying not to freeze your butt off. This Fashionista makes it look easy. She masters the cold weather look with a black knit turtleneck sweater and a pair of ripped black jeans. Being in Oregon she stays prepared for the rain with a trendy oversized raincoat and finishes off the look with a pair of leather boots. This Fashionista keeps it perfectly simple and chic giving us the push we needed to conquer this Oregon winter!

Blessed and Distressed

The past year has brought us many new things: a new presidential election, a new IPhone update, and best of all some new fashion trends. Though I love to relish in all things fashion, some of these trends I may never execute myself (cough, Birkenstocks, cough). But despite the few faulty trends that have entered the fashion world, there seem to be a few new trends that have changed the style world forever. One of these groundbreaking additions is the off the shoulder top. Whether they’re of cotton, linen or spandex material, they seem to accommodate to all different styles and various body shapes. The only problem with this new trend is that it can only be added to our spring and summer wardrobes, giving us a few months to take advantage and sport them whenever we can! Another trend that has been popular for a while now is the distressed boyfriend jean. Girls love to love these pants like they’re a gift from God. They maintain comfort while staying trendy and flattering, ending the era of having to unbutton our jeans after a heavy meal (c’mon we know we all do it). This specific look combines both these style trends by pairing a black cropped off the shoulder top with a pair of white distressed boyfriend jeans for a casual yet chic outfit for any occasion. She finished off her look with a pair of suede black booties and a western leather belt. Switch up this look for a day of running errands by swapping the booties for a cool pair of sneakers and you’re good to go!

Tailgate Time

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, it is finally tailgating season! For many college students, and most importantly college students who attend PAC 12 schools, (yeah, that’s me) this is the best time of the year. For students attending the University of Oregon, the back to school blues are quickly shut down with the arrival of football season. With a Heisman winning alumni and an unreal team of ducks, Oregon studnets have the most outstanding school spirit (I’m not bias, I swear). Thousands of people migrate to Eugene to tailgate in the parking lot of Autzen Stadium with friends, family and fellow duck fans. Tailgating at the U of O has become such an event that some outfit choices are forever remembered, and students spend all week choosing an outfit that will encapsulate their love for the ducks. A recent tailgating trend has been homemade lace-up Oregon T-shirts and tank tops or oversized football jerseys being worn as dresses. Though fall in Oregon can bring any kind of weather, rain or shine duck fans will be at Autzen Stadium ready to yell “OOOOO”. Whether they’re in duck themed ponchos to stay safe from the rain, or obnoxious green and yellow striped overalls, they are always dressed to impress when it comes to tailgating.
This Fashionista shows just the right amount of school spirit in an oversized grey Oregon T-shirt paired with a trendy denim skirt. For shoes she keeps it casual with a pair of comfortable black Vans to avoid sore feet from the long hours of cheering on the sidelines. She adds a sporty touch to her look with a yellow backpack, keeping her cute while also being able to carry all the game day necessities. She ties her whole look together adding a green bandana around her neck, keeping her look trendy while still showing off her school spirit. If you’re heading to a party after the game, trade in the sneakers for some heeled booties. You’ll still be sticking to your school spirit while staying cute for a night out!

All Choked Up

Hello people! With summer in full swing, the heat is increasing and the clothes are decreasing. This look portrays my favorite summer trend: the denim skirt. For years I have been longing to bring out my mini jean skirt that I loved oh-so-much in middle school, and finally the time has come where my denim skirt dream is not only acceptable but encouraged! I adore this trend simply for how many ways you can wear it. For this specific look I brought out my inner ‘90s chick pairing the skirt with a vintage Justin Timberlake t-shirt (don’t even lie about how much your NSYNC fan-girl is feeling quite nostalgic right now). I added a feminine yet still edgy touch with a metal choker (just another ‘90s craze escaping from the vault) and finished off the look with some dainty arm candy and my favorite classic pair of white Converse. I love this look because you can switch it up for a night out by swapping the converse for a pair of leather booties or keep it simple for a day of errands by sticking to the comfortable choice of sneakers!

Weekend Wear

That dreadful time has arrived—summer is finally coming to a close. For some of us, this means that our days of sleeping in, lounging around and being graced with the freedom of doing absolutely nothing is over. Even though the thought of not being able to sit on the couch and eat lucky charms while watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians makes me wince, at least I know my reality will still be possible on the weekends. Whether we spend them brunching, shopping or running errands; looking fabulous is a must no matter where the day takes us.
This Fashionista does just that in a to-die-for casual but stylish outfit that ensures comfort while still looking fashionable. She keeps it relaxed in a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans while spicing up the look with a lace-up crop top. Since our days tend to be filled with tons of walking, she pairs her look with some comfortable, yet edgyboots. This Fashionista accessorizes her look with a western inspired leather belt, and keeps the jewelry simple with a Micheal Kors tortoise watch and dainty arm candy. She finishes off the look with a leather backpack—making it easy to shop at her full potential without a hefty purse getting in her way.
One Simple Change: Want to transition this look from a casual day to a night on the town? Simply swap the boyfriend jeans for a leather mini skirt and you’re ready for a night out!

Overall Obsessed

Who would’ve thought that the trend everyone was guilty of in the ‘90s would now be our latest craze? Overall skirts, shorts and full-length overalls are taking over the fashion world one buckle at a time. No one really knows who initiated this trend—farmers, painters or DJ Tanner—but we’re still loving this easy to wear piece almost 20 years later.
Available in every sort of color, crop and texture you can think of, overalls are appropriate for every occasion, leaving no question as to why they’re our new obsession. Best of all? You can easily dress them up or down no matter where your next adventure takes you, creating the perfect addition to everyone’s closet.
So how does one rock a cool pair of overalls without being mistaken for a farmer or someone on the cast of a ’90s Nickelodeon show? This Fashionista does just that in her dark wash, flared denim overalls. She pairs this look with oversized hoops, retro round shades and a chunky gold bangle, giving off a strong ’70s vibe. To avoid overdoing the look, she pairs her overalls with a simple black crop top and black patent oxfords.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “The best way to pull off wearing overalls is to wear them with confidence. Pair them with your favorite top, add some accessories and some killer shoes and you’re ready to go!”

Staying Classy

Summer is upon us! This means it’s time to break out those summer dresses, denim shorts and lace-up sandals. But if you know anything about Eugene, Oregon (which you probably don’t because it isn’t exactly a vacation hotspot), you know that when the sun shines through the gloom, it’s a marvelous miracle. Since we Oregonians are very rarely blessed with those golden rays of sunshine, we take full advantage of those precious sunny moments and it shows through our outfit choices. Since we are typically VERY unprepared for these unusually bright days, you will often see us pair our summer outfits with winter accessories, because those clear skies can (and probably will) turn back to gloom in the blink of an eye.
So while the rest of the country puts away their winter boots, scarves, and beanies; we simply incorporate them into our warm weather outfits. Although Eugene is known for its very laid-back feel when it comes to dressing for events of any kind, you can still spot a few Fashionistas discreetly bringing their A-game. Whether it be a casual day of classes, brunch or a night out with friends, these Fashionistas still exist even amongst the relaxed and carefree culture of Oregon.
This trendy Fashionista keeps it chic yet comfortable while strutting to class in a loose and breathable Free People blouse and denim shorts, giving off a breezy West Coast feel. Whether it be with sandals or boots, adding a heel can grab attention instantly. This Fashionista does just that by adding snakeskin Jeffrey Campbell booties to her look. She tops it all off with an oversized Aritzia scarf (in case a professor decides to lower the AC to ensure their students are awake). Accessorizing her outfit with chunky silver rings, a leather watch and some gold bangles gives her outfit the bohemian edge it needs. She finishes off the look with a pair of to-die-for rose gold aviators—in case the sun decides to grace us with its presence!
One Simple Change: As college students, we are constantly moving from adventure to adventure. Tweak this outfit for a fun night out by throwing on an edgy leather jacket.
